Bányai József: A vadászat tárgyi eszközei

Hunting tools in the Hunting Collection of the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture JÓZSEF BÁNYAI Since its establishment the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture has been involved in exhibiting and propagating Hungarian hunting activity. On September 12, 1897, the time of the opening of the museum, the first permanent hunting exhibition in Hungary was opened to the public in the Gothic Wing of the historical building complex of the Vajdahunyad Castle. The majority of the exhibited material consisted of preparations, because the acquisition of trophies and other objects was difficult. The exhibition of shotguns, powder flasks, horns, knives, and cartridge making tools was made possible by the deposited material of Tódor Kertész. The enlargement of the collection of hunting tools owned by the museum gradually started from the year 1907. Two shotguns, which were donated to the museum by Count Béla Széchenyi, deserve special attention. The historically and uniquely valuabe items were bought in London between 1820 and 1825 during his father’s stay in England. The number of catalogued objects gradually grew by the end of the 1950's due to donations and purchases. In the mid 1960's objects related to hunting were considered to be current articles again, so their acquisition was much more difficult than that of other objects of agriculture. From 1990 the situation has become even more difficult, less and less quality hunting objects are available and if so, at a very high price. Donations have almost completely ceased. In the hunting exhibition of the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture almost all types of hunting tools can be found in chronological order starting from the bow used by our ancestors to the tools used by the hunters of modern times. The catalogue to be published allows us to get an idea of the development, change, and the process of the improvement of hunting tools in the past centuries. Shotguns are a separate category and will be considered in a separate volume. (The number of objects in the catalogue under preparation is 300-310 pcs., the number of objects suggested for photography is 100-150 pcs.) 25 A magyar pipa története - a magyar történelem a pipákon.
