KOVÁCS Looking back to its ten years' history, the special course in museum education, and the practical lessons at the beginning focused on the opportunities of environmental education in museums, then they gradually moved towards a more comprehensive approach of museum education. Practical lessons have been conducted by the authors, members of the Department of Pubhc Education. The lessons aim at demonstrating everyday life and work processes at a museum and introducing students into the practice and opportunities of educational work based on personal experience and motivated by curiosity, by the means of much exercise. In the course of the lessons the following subjects have been treated: the first public col­lections; 'tricks of the trade' of a museum; work activities at a museum; environmental educa­tion in museum education; ecological approach in exhibitions; harmony of built and natural environment on the example of Vajdahunyad castle and the City Park; relations between man and animal; beauty in nature and aesthetics; an outline of the history of museum education; aspects and circumstances of museum lessons for children; establishing and keeping contacts with educational institutions; the role of folk-tales and fairy-tales in museum sessions for little children; static and dynamic exhibitions; active participation in museum lessons; active acqui­sition of knowledge; handicraft lessons; levels of the transmission of knowledge; interactive lessons; handicraft work related with some exhibitions; ethnographical classification of toys and games; preparation of handicraft lessons, technical conditions, tools and materials; prac­tising of handicrafts: weaving, spinning, felting, making dolls from husks and corn-cob; tradi­tional feasts and folk customs; situation games and dramatization.
