Hungarian merchants associated with the Hanseatic League were arrested in London according to documents held in the Public Record Office, or published in the Hansiches Urkundenbuch. Some other sources also reveal that Hungarian silverware and leather products had reached England by the turn of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Similarly several entries show in the account books of the cities in the west and north of Hungary that English clothes were imported as early as the fifteenth century. The boom for selling English clothes came along with the Turkish wars in the 16th century. Hungarian soldiers defending the castles against the Turks were partly paid in kind, i.e. clothes, and most of it came from England. This is even corroborated by the fact that merchant seals dating from the Tudor period were found all over Hungary.
