Naturally, MITTERPACHER and NAGYVÁTHY deserved their great fame under the early nineteenth century con­ditions of farming in Hungary, but PETHE's book had its fundamental merits in dis­seminating the ideas of the most profitable practice of husbandry of the age. With respect to the professional standards of the articles published in his first periodical, „Pallérozott mezei gazdaság" gave a systematic discription about the dif­ferent aspects of the chosen model. His criticism and remarks, sometimes combined with a comparative analysis of the English and Hungarian agrotechnics, cropping systems etc., also prove his progress as an agriculturist. In addition, he often sur­passed simple criticism by pointing out the stimulating effects of capital, manpower, and market.
