Múzeumi épületek - Porkoláb László: A Fazola projekt szükségessége. Tervek, elképzelések a miskolc-ujmassai műemlék kohó fejlesztésére
LÁSZLÓ PORKOLÁB: THE NECESSITY OF THE "FAZOLA PROJECT" Plans and ideas for improving the blast-furnace in Miskolc-Újmassa, an industrial monument of the 19 th century The paper recalls the main historical events related to the blast-furnace based on charcoal fuelling, built in the early 19 th century, and considered to be the industrial monument N°. 1 of Hungary. At the same time he presents the project designed for the future utilization, in tourism, of one of the most outstanding relics of domestic built heritage and its site, the popular excursion goal. The aim of the "Fazola projecfis to make visiting of the monuments of mining and metallurgy in the region of Northern Hungary possible. Within this, the first step should be to prepare the designs for developing the blast furnace in Újmassa and its surroundings into a park of industrial relics. The restoration linked to changes in function might enrich the region, at present still in unfavourable social and economic conditions, with a unique touristical attraction. As a result of reconstruction and improvement a site of industrial monuments might be realized that could show - in a unique way in Central Europe - the individual steps of contemporary iron manufacture in the original size and surroundings. The visitor might follow the main processes of smelting, from charcoal burning through ore cutting, burdening and the sparkling iron flow, to the fascinating view of forging. With the implementation of the project the monument blast furnace, the remainder of the Iron Works Diósgyőr-Hámor that survived till today, will be - as an important symbol of our industrial heritage along with the museums' collections a decisive station of the Trail of European Industrial Heritage.
