MIKLÓS ÉKES: ON THE EVOLUTION OF THE ELEVATOR-TECHNOLOGY The caveman has already applied the elevator even before inventing the wheel. Its spreading, technical improvement has only begun during the ancient times to satisfy the theaters' and other luxurious requirements. At the end of the ancient times extra supplies ap­peared to improve safety. During the middle ages mining, and later the expansion of world trade has required the de­velopment, the further improvement of safety and fulfilment of luxurious requiremenets. The formation of big cities and spreading of multiple-story buildings has made the application of elevators essential. The development of electric power production, supply and consumption has enabled its widespread utilization. High buildings-skyscrapers require intensive vertical public transportation and therefore elevators are not anymore luxurious.
