Papers from the Second International Conference on the History of Chemistry and Chemical Industry (Eger, Hungary, 16–19 August, 1995) - Vámos, Éva Katalin: Contributions to the History of the Association of Hungarian Chemical Industrials

He declared that mass products would have to be imported, and this was going to set back the rest of the branches as well. Then he analysed the situation by branches. He stated that 23 industrial branches were oing to lose part of their plants, while in 9 branches the loss of the factories was going to be fatal. However, beside the - to its greater part - pessimistic tone, information of the Association's members about the development and prospectives of the chemical industry of the world and of Hungary was being carried on. The Association tried to give much help to scientific chemistry, beside publishing the gazette. Before World War I a fund was created for supporting university training. The capital of this fund, like the majority of the Association's capital invested in war loans, got lost after the war or lost its value as a consequence of inflation. They could not publish the gazette any more, nor could they create the fund again. However, even later they tried to support university training. This is proved also by a letter of 1937 that reads as follows: 44 To the Presidium of the Association of Hungarian Chemical Industrials Budapest With reference to your memorial of June 18 of this year (file No. 2224/1937), I herewith respectfully notify the Honorable Presidium that today the Council of the Hungarian Royal Palatine József Technical University, at its 1st ordinary session of the academic year 1937/38, took notice with pleasure of the measure taken by the Honorable Presidium, according to which, as a result of the resolution adopted by the General Assembly of the Association of Hungarian Chemical Industrials, a scholarship of 2000 Pengoes was made available to the Technical University for the Section (Faculty) of Chemical Engineering to enable the faculty mentioned of the Technical University to stimulate the students of the Section of Chemical Engineering, in an appropriate way according to its own judgement, by awards to be distributed, so that these would deepen their studies into chemistry. The Council of the Technical University highly appreciates, in particular, the noble intention of the Association of Hungarian Chemical Industrials, according to which they want to assure the sum now offered to the Technical University also in the years to follow, thus giving evidence of their high esteem of the valuable work carried out by the teaching staff of the Section of Chemical Engineering of the Technical University, and of their fondness of youth. Expressing, on behalf of the Council of the Technical University, our
