ZOLTÁN REMPORT: COUNT ISTVÁN SZÉCHENYI AND IRON MILL ALONG THE DANUBE Starting from 1832 industrialization-related activity obtained high priority In Széchenyi's life-work. In unison with his friend Count Móric Sándor, they had made the decision to establish an iron mill along the Danube on Sándor's domain, relying on the coal-basin of Dorog. Their intent was, however, prevented by the fact that they did not find iron ore suitable for smelting In the Buda Hills. Széchenyi still did not give up his plan to launch a heavy industry project along the Danube and founded, in 1847, the Iron Foundry and Machine Factory Company of Pest. Continuation of Szécheny's design to develop industry in Hungary has been counteracted by the history, but it is an established truth that idea of building an iron mill along the Danube comes from him.
