GYULA BATARI: ON THE SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL RELATIONS OF THE JOURNAL "TUDOMÁNYTÁR" The journal Tudománytár first appeared in April 1834 as the publication of the Hungarian Scientific Society, the predecessor of the Hungarian Academy of Science. Its subtitle was: Scientific, Educational and Critical Journal. Its first editor was Ferenc Schedel (Toldy), physician and literary historian. In addition to papers on the humanities, scientific and technologically concerned papers also constantly appeared in the journal which also dealt with the academies from abroad and reported on news of the Hungarian Scientific Society. It reviewed the publications of scientific societies and the papers of some journals from abroad. The contributors were mainly the members of the Academy of Science. From 1837 on, based on the decision of the general assembly of the Academy, the journal was issued in two series: one series published 'Treatises", editor of this series was János Luczenbacher (Erdy) (1796—1871), jurist and archeologist, the other series was edited under the subtitle "Literatura" by Pal Almási Balogh (1794—1867), physician and contained book reviews and abstracts of journals. Many contributors were well-known and still known personalities such as Elek Fényes, Péter Vajda, Jácint Rónay, Ágoston Trefort, János Irinyi and Ferenc Karacs. Due to an important decrease in the number of subscribers, the Journal ceased publication in December 1844, causing significant loss to the Hungarian world of science. The importance of the journal "Tudománytár" consists in that it created the type of journal of scientific societies in Hungary and was the model of later similar publications, but also influenced the various types of scientific reviews.
