An important contribution to commercial clothing manufacturing. Mrs H. R. Tracy's „Lock and Chain Stich Sewing Machine" as zig-zag sewing, which helped to make sewing machines generally useful and popular for home use. Helen Blanchard founded the American Buttonhole, Overseaming & Sewing Machine Company circa 1870. The company prospered because of her many inventions. She died as a wealthy woman in 1922. Similarly Mrs. H. R. Tracy's „Lock and Chain Stitch Sewing Machine" and especially her commercial bobbin, which holds 1,000 yards of thread, helped overcome defects of early sewing machines and became important contributors to commercial clothing manufacturing.
