SUMMARY LÁSZLÓ TÖKÉCZKY: THE FORMATION AIMS OF THE HUNGARIAN NATIONAL UNITED COLLECTIONS Political and economic crises following World War I heavily struck the foundations of Hungarian public collections and scientific institutions. Simultaneously, the prin­ciple of Hungarian cultural supremacy in Central Europe used as argument in terri­torial revision claims required increased cultural and scientific activities. In this contradictory situation a peculiar, loose union of several museums, libraries and scientific institutions, termed Hungarian National United Collections was established in 1922, which existed for a decade. Its objective was to effect stronger government control of cultural policies and to concentrate economic management. The paper discusses the positive and negative role of this union critically; it deems that in the age in question, the positive features prevailed.
