MŰSZAKI SZAKMÚZEUMOK - Pál Vajda: Industrial Museums in Hungary (in English)
Hungarian Chemistry Museum: Early Alchemist Laboratory imported from the United States, with its 136 foot prismatic four-legged derrick, assembled according to the specifications of the relevant API standard, and •consisting of steel sections held together with screw joints. This rig was the first of its type in Hungary. Later on the domestic industry has built similar derricks to API standard. For over three decades they were the visible signs of oil mining activities in Zala county. Over another open but roofed area instruments, tools and fittings used for petroleum mining, sensitive to atmospheric effects, are exhibited to represent the equipment used in well drilling, and in the production of mineral oil and natural gas. Among the seven groups of exhibits in this part, the one including some items on deep well drilling is perhaps the most interesting display. The collections exhibited indoors illustrate the manifold activities of the oil mining industry. Some characteristic pieces of equipment are shown in photographs, models, and diagrams giving a general idea of the work in this industry, the war waged for the possession of oil, the influence of the major oil concerns upon international politics, and the bitter life-and-death struggle for the oil fields.
