SZEMLE - Szilágyi István: Elkészült a Magyar Műszaki Múzeum első egysége
szocialista kultúránknak ezen a kevesek által ismert területén is olyan pezsgő az élet, amely népünk kulturális, ipari-műszaki fejlődésében is a jövő nagy távlataira, népünk életerejére világít rá. TECHNICAL MUSEUMS István Szilágyi The frist part of the National Technical Museum has been completed.lt consists of a split-level storage-pavilion, with an exhibition hall, a library, and a restoration workshop. The construction of the new building had been preceded by nearly 70 years of protraction. Engineers and technicians have urged the establishment of a technical museum in numerous memoranda adressed to the various governments in power as well as in newspaper articles, ever since the close of the 19th century. However, the efforts of the few enthusiasts who worked in this cause were thwarted at an initial stage by a lack of interest on the part of the governments and of society as a whole. The frist step towards the realization of the above mentioned plan was the enactment of Act No. 4. of 1954, issued by the Presidium of the Hungarian People's Republic regarding the preservation of technical relics; the new law placed the valuable proofs of Hungary's technical progress under special protection. This covers, in addition to the technical objects of historic value, their accessories, drawings, written documation and models. In the enacting clause, which followed the publication of the Act, the Presidium entrusted the execution of the Collection and Registration of Technical Relics, - an operative organ attached to the Museum Department of the Ministry of Education. The Committee on History of Technical Science, working under the auspices of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the Federation of Technical and Scientific Societies, also included the program, and the various ministerial departments, industrial authorities, and universities have joined in the work of collecting material for the museum.
