Summary The first Laboratory Instruction in Chemistry in the World at the Mining Academy in Selmec by Ferenc Szabadváry In connection to the metallurgical industry analytical chemists worked already in the Middle Ages in the Hungarian Highlands. They were called "testers". Their training was made within the factories. This education was developed to a school, which became an Academy in 1763 , laboratory practice was introduced for the students, first in the whole world. The paper describes the contents of these practices. The education inSelmecz became the example for the École Poly­technique of Paris when founded in 17 94, and practical laboratory education spread over generally from here.
