Part IV. From The Collections Of The Transport Museum Sándor Bálint: The Light Motorcycle Mátra. This study shows, how could start the grandiose development of the Hungarian industry again despite of the losses caused hy World War I and the economic world crisis of the 20s. The Author demonstrates in detail the process of development, which resulted in the construction of the light motorcycle Mátra 100. This vehicle of Hungarian construction brought outstanding results concerning the technical parameters, the fuel consumption, the power and the speed, proven by the first and second places achieved during a number of competitions. The Urbach company had been nationalized on the 28th December, 1949 practically ending the further mani facture of the light motorcycles. The permanent exhibition of the Transport Museum demonstrates a light motorcycle of original construction and colour originating most probably from the first series. János Hídvégi: The Restauration Of The Carrier-tricycle Méray. In the 1920-1930s the small contractors in Hungary requiring an only smaller transport capacity urged the construction of a carrier, which could satisfy their own requirements. This was the carrier-tricycle Méray composed of motorcycle parts and built in the workshop of the Méray Borthers. The payload of the carrier-tricycle equipped with a 350 cm JAP engine was 250 kg, its max. speed 40 km/h and fuel consumption 51/100 km. The tricycle was built both in open and closed versions. The first unit was finished in 1926. According to the researches of the Author the vehicle being in possession of the Transport Museum underwent a number of modifications and repairs. Consequently the first and most important tasks at the restauration of the vehicle were the survey of the condition of the parts, the filtering out the parts not belonging to the type and the determination of the modifications deviating from the original. To save the originality as much as possible the restorer tried to clear up the original function of the vehicle and its operator by polishing the coat of paint. Since this method was unsuccessful examinations of the coat of paint by electron microscope have been carried out. Unfortunately even these examinations have not brought évaluable results, consequently it has been decided to restore the original car-body demonstrated by the service instructions. The engine and the transmission remained in a good condition and they were assembled after cleaning. The Author demonstrates in his study the phases of restauration. Katalin Rácz: The Restauration Of The Two Flags Of The Rudolf Society. By the end of the 1800s there was a big boost in the development of the railway, the network became denser and the number of railway employees increased. Despite of the development the salary and the social situation of the employees worsened. As a result of the stand-by of the railway community one of the mutual aid societies, the "Burial Society Of All (Servant) Employees In Budapest Of The Hungarian Royal State Railways" has been established in 1875. The first flag of this society was dedicated on the 10th October, 1875. Several years later the society adopted the name of its patron crownprince Rudolf and it functions even now as the "Rudolf Insurance And Relief Society". The Author carried out the restoration of the flag as her diploma work on the Object Restorer faculty of the Hungarian Art School. The flag is kept in the collection of the Transport Museum. In the sutdy the Author describes in detail the condition of the flag before its restoration and the demages caused by the previous repairs. The Author determined the material of the textiles of the flag by microscopic examination and the sturcture of the painted layers by elcctronmicroscopic examination. The material quality of the metal threads and the lamineltes has been determined by electronmicroscopic examination, too. Following that the Author describes in detail the phases of the restoration as a result of which the flag was completed by 1999. The society had made a second flag in 1925 on the occasion of the 50-year jubilee of its establishment, which was restored in 2000 at its own expense. The survey of the condition and the restoration of the flag are described by the Author in detail, too. The flag is demonstrated in the permanent exhibition of the Transport Museum. Tibor Fülöp: The Half Century Of The Hungarian Civil And Sports Parachuting. The Author, who has been working as a parachuter for 27 years, reviews the development and official regulation of the 380
