The headwear is decorated with hanging red ribbons. The rider holds a whip in his right hand and a broad saddle-cloth is visible behind him. There is a broad golden-coloured band around ihe hump of the camel and a bag. The background shows a few pasturing camels under blue skies with Chinese style clouds. Sengelsokyo was born in 1917 as a son of a family producing artists through gene­rations, lie is a self-taught painter whose favourite childhood pastime was wood-carving. From 1934 on he took an interest in oil painting and later in the traditional national arts. Since 1956 he has worked in the Art Association of the Mongolian People's Republic. I le is now a teacher of the younger generation and he has I ravelled widely. Willi his talent, he has ably pictured several historical scenes and the everyday life of the freedom loving Mongolian people. In his native country he is a well-known painter, the masler of national painting, NVIIO has been honoured with many awards (in 1956 he became a Merited Artist). Several paintings of his are being kepi in the Central .Museum of Ulánbátor. The illustrated painting is the first example of modern Mongolian painting in the museum. It was donated by Y. Dorjsuren, director of the Central Museum of Mongolia, to the llopp Museum in commemoration of the 50eth anniversary. Our thanks arc due to him also for the information referring lo the artist.
