Fig. 9. China. Two porcelain panels in album-form. Made in the nineteenth century. Purchase. I..: 20 cin. W.: 12,ő cm. Inventory number: 69.107. The application of the two porcelain panels is unusual, being jointed with each other in wood set in album-form. They differ from those hanging on the wall or standing framed as screens, or used as decorations on chests and chairs. On the two panels are two painted landscapes in the traditional style of painting. From the C.h'ing dynasty on, besides the usual decorative motives, landscapes and still files can he seen on porcelain pieces made by contemporary painters or reproduced modelling on works of the contemporary well known painters. The two landscapes give natural beauties of an early summer. In the background of the left one is a range of cliffed mountains. A river at the center stretches into the distance with two far sailing boats. There arc flying birds in the sky, below them on the banks stand houses and trees. In foreground is seen a fruit-tree in luxuriant blossom. Behind it we can view a group of houses with a pavilion. Two men are visible in the balcony facing onto the river, one of them is leaning out. The mountains, cliffs and trees are finely worked out in great detail with thinly scratched lines and dots. The landscape on the right has the same structure with mountains in the background, a river at the center with sails and boats. At the foot of the mountain and on the riverbanks houses are visible with human figures. In the foreground are two large willows and a blossoming tree, besides them stands a thatched hut with two sealed men. Both pictures are painted in different shades of green on greyish white ground. The flowers, mountains and human figures are partly painted in red, yellow and brown. Both panels are fine and intact. I ,. K. 7 Iparművészeti Múzeum Évkönyve 97
