15 c q u est: An Indian sari, bequeathed by Miss Kornélia Magyar Mannheimer, daughter .>f Gyula Magyar Mannheimer, painter (1859—L937) as a donation from her father's collection. Cession : The most outstanding item of 133 pieces, the greatest from this respect, was bought by the Ministry of Education. It belonged previously to the fehér collection. Apart from the great number, its importance lies in the great value it represents and the fact that it completes our collection substantially. I would like to name here only some of the works: a (i piece small group of Chinese porcelain parrots dating from the early 18th century (fig. 7). an octagonal celadon plate from the beginning of the Ming period (fig. I), and among the other Chinese works: gold plated lamaist bronze statuettes, bronze bells from the 15—I (i. century, a thin light-green glazed goblet (fig. 8) with the name Young-cheng under the glaze from the lime of Yung-cheng (1723—35), and a two-piece wooden screen for writing-table with painted porcelain insertion (fig. 9). The number of Japanese works is not too large: beside the 18th century Jizo bronze statue two inro are worth men I ion ing. one of them for its unusual subject (fig. II). the other for its individual character (fig. 10). We also have to mention a 15—16th century silling Buddha statue from Thailand, illustrated pages from Persian manuscripts as well as an inlaid Persian shield. The five items of cession by the Ministry of the Interior include two remarkable 17—I8lh century Chinese lacquered statues carved from wood, the first representing the King of Nell, the second the Kiianyin with Eish. The latter is described by Gabriella Imre in the present number of our Yearbook. The "Te-htia Kuanyin" which could be produced in the I7lh century (fig. 6) is also remarkable. A Turkish-Persian yatagan from the 19th century and an early 16th century Egyptian tinned copper lunch-box (fig. 2) were transferred by cession by the Court of Justice oj Budapest.
