Fig. 11. Japan. Lacquered inrö. An inrô of four cases with internal channels. The inside is covered with finegrained dark nashiji. The decoration of die inrô is done in gold and yellowish green hira- and takamakie on rô-iro iniri ground. Represented is a groom holding a harnessed horse under a tree. The trunk of the tree displays okibirame inlay. The fence under the tree is continued on the reverse side of the inrô. Here the scene is covered with the widespreading branches of a pine tree. The top and the hot loin of the inrô are painter! in gold. This inrô may be dated to late 18th or early 19th century and it displays a traditional scene. Length: 5.2 cm. Height: 7.3 cm. Inv. no.:
