HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM — MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - Horváth, Tibor: Report on the Activities of the Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts in 1967
picture as a whole is dominated by the bulk of the garden-pavilion nearly breaking up the frame of the picture. Stairs lead the way up to the building. On its simple, scarcely ornamented facade the pillars are decorated with sunk-panels, and the pressed hemispheric cupola, divided by ribs, ends in a simple peak, with petals below. The one-dimension representation of the garden and the pavilion deepens like a stage unexpectedly between the two pillars supporting the facade. The lotus-decorated supporting pillars and the sunk panel-decorated back wall of the pavilion come into sight. The scene in this: inner, closed space gives the impression of being enclosed and sheltered. On the left the prince is sitting on a cushion wearing green robe and turban, smoking a hookah as if thinking of the next sentence to be uttered as soon as the young princess sitting opposite to him takes up the paper and the pen. The princess is dressed in an orange coloured blouse and dupatta; a jar and a utensil for warming up food are placed by her side and in front of her. The picture is dominated by the grey colour of the pavilion brightened to some extent by the colour of the dresses and the leaves. The types, robes, the representation in profile, the gestures and the emphasized eyes in the faces give a fine specimen of Kangra-stvle. V. H.
