limn, M. "Arjuna and Duryudhana" ', a batik picture on canvas (Fig. 8.) The representation appears in a very simple form. The artist, instead of the picture of the reality, gives its simplified picture. The picture of the two characters and of the war chariots are not the real representation of the seen incident, but they appear in the most characteristic lateral view of the subject. By doing so the representation is abstracted from the illusion of space and from the life. All the elements of the picture : horses, war chariots, warriors are depicted only so to speak symbolically, on a flat surface. Size : 68 X 36,5 cm. Ram, M, "Rath" — sacred festive chariot (Fig. 9.). Batik picture on canvas. The background of the whole image plane is red, which presents itself not only as an emotional factor, but by its strong effect it destroys even the remained traces of perspective delineation. The artist gives a plan of facade of the elements of the picture. He does not make perceptible their expansion in depth. It is rather like a plane than something possible to perambulate. The artist may have started from a real experience. This is shown by the representation of the earth, the chariot and the human figures in the lower part of the picture. His intention, however, was not to paint a landscape, but his creation is placed on the plane of the wall as an ornamental (decorative) model. Size: 116x76 cm. V. H. Fùj. 9. M. Ram, Rath, batik
