Fig. 2. Buddha relief (Engaku-ji, Kamakura 2 ), the other had been made of wood covered with gold plate in 1274 (Ankoku-ji, Onomichi 3 ). It is remarkable that the little Buddhas are missing from both halos, but their place is visible. On the halo of the lacquered Amida Nyorai (Sen-Butsu-kö) made of wood by Kaseki shönin in 1664—67 (Jöshin-ji, Tokyo) both the 7 larger and the ,,thousand" smaller Buddhas are found again. 4 According to its measurement and character, the Buddha relief (Fig. 2.) of the Museum belongs to the group oîkebutsu-s. These too could be found on kakebotoke-s.
