HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM — MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - Ferenczy, László: A Saljuk bronze from Iran. A present from Sir Aurel Stein

Fig. 6. Stand and joining part of a 12— 13th century bronze. Courtesy of the Museum of Islamic Art, Cairo. (Cambridge, Mass.). 32 Its intertwining bands, framing the four Naskhi inscriptions, are analogous to those on our tray. In the medallions there are also plant ornaments. The character of the Naskhi inscriptions on the tray is also similar (there are even two identical words in the text: al-'izzwa-'l-'ikbal). The remaining ornamentation of the tray is different: in the centre are four running hares, while the rim is decorated with pointed petals turned to the outside. The function of the object is different too, as its bottom is flat and smooth, and can be used as a tray. 32 Ettinghausen, R.: Op. cit. Fig. 21.
