Because of the difficulties involved the classification is uncertain, the method and style make it a piece from the Gupta period. A new idea of womanhood was formed in this age : in comparison to the strong and striking sexual features popular in former times, the woman is depicted as rather childish, delicate, with complicated make-up. The proportional body, elegant poses, soft rounded forms and graceful charm of the entire female figure denotes great artistic skill which is to be found mainly in the middle and preceding Gupta periods. The medieval creations are separated into types ; they are more dynamic. Therefore I believe it was made at the end of the Gupta or perhaps the beginning of the Middle period. Height: 5,7 cm. Figure 5 : This bust of a woman is related to No 4 by both its workmanship and material. Her head is also veiled but not decorated with pearls, and her thick hair drapes over her shoulders. The modelling of the face is also similar. Her graceful neck, round, well-shaped chin and thick shapely mouth are characteristics which gained more prominence in the Gupta period. Here
