HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM — MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - F. Takáts, Zoltán: Some Notes to the Bronzes and Other Objects of the Chinese Collection. III

The line of the compressed lips undulates. We can note the dimples and the stylised Musculus risorius. The quadratus and mentalis are also distinguishable on the chin. The manneristically modelled sternum and its processus are slightly concave. The stilised ribs are especially prominent and without a cover of muscles. The chest, which is totally covered by muscles and skin, has two nipples and below each one a wrinkle. Four of it are covering the skin below the sternum. Below the sternum, instead of the navel, there is a conforming opening. I believe it is the peculiar ,,san tsiang" supposed by the Chinese to be absolutely necessary for all functions of the viscera in a living organism. The arms, which try to seize the demon's feet, are bare and actually portray the different layers of muscle. They are unusually large, although no effort is made to flex them. We can easily distinguish the deltoid muscles, less so the biceps, the triceps and especially the extensor digitorum on the underarm. The ligamentum carpi dorsale, which is not visible on living persons, is also evident. Anatomical specimens must have been used for models. The whole of anatomical studies, partly on living bodies, partly on dead ones, resulted in construction a humanorganism, certainly without fixing its points of support. The patellae are well represented, but geometrically stylised. The too realistically imitated elbows contrast sharply with the rest.
