HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM — MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - Horváth, Tibor: Report on the Activities of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts 1962

Fig. 1. Two pumpkins with leaves. Jade. Sung Exhibitions : The Art of Old and New China exhibition was enriched with 321 items of modern decorative and folk arts. We received this material from the Government of the Chinese People's Republic in 1961. (For its description see the Report in our Yearbook vol. VI). Two adjoining rooms in the exhibition, one with the objects from the 1955 gift and the other with items from this last donation showing well the development of applied arts, as well as the richness of the folk arts of China. Lydia Rásonyi and Péter Polonyi arranged the display of this new addition which could be seen since August 20. The newly acquired Vietnamese collection, containing valuable material and donated by the Vietnamese Democratic Republic in the autumn of 1961 (briefly noted by the author in the last volume of our Yearbook) was set up in the fourth hall of the otherwise intact Indian exhibition in co-operation with the Institute of Cultural Relations (figures 10—11). Modern Vietnamese works were also put on display in the corridor of the main floor of the Museum, including lacquer works, hand-coloured wood-block prints (for New Year [Tét]), objects of folk and applied arts taken partly from the Museum's collections and partly on loan from private collectors and the Vietnamese Embassy. This latter part was changed three times before closing. The exhibition which remained open until January 31, 1963 was opened by Dr. Endre Rosta, president in charge of the Institute for Cultural Relations on Sept. 1, 1962. This exhibition was set up by Tibor Horváth. *
