HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM - MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - Felvinczi Takáts, Zoltán: Some Notes to the Bronzes of the Chinese Collection. I.

Beside all similarities in concept, style and colour with the famous Shösöin box, it is absolutely coeval with it. During my active service in the Museum I could and would not allow myself to collect Han- and T'ang pottery in a representative amount. I kept myself to the principle not to accept any piece the origin of which I had no opportunity to control. I always put more confidence in bronzes. Two of them might be published here. They are breloques of Han-style in diminished shape. One of them is of white, the other one of red bronze. This latter one (Fig. 22.) originates supposedly from North China (Peking ?), where it was bought by Count Jenő Zichy, who presented it to the Municipal Museum of Budapest. From there it has been transmitted to the Ethnographical Museum and finally to the Ferenc Hopp Museum. Unfortunately one side of it suffered a cut of spade. Its bottom is gone. There was a later supplement of the tubular stand, a proof of late date Han in the style of the object. The other flacon of white bronze (Fig. 23.), is of a single casting. It may be dated for good as Han. Its tubular stand is perforated. The relative amplitude of proportion is rather advantageous to the fashion of this tiny trinket. I see in it another token of antiquity. Originally it has not been a single pendant. One appendage to it I intend to publish at the next opportunity. I label this neat model of vase without any doubt as Han work.
