MÁRIA PETŐ FRAGMENTS OF A ROMAN FUNERARY MONUMENT AND SHRINE AT CSILLAGHEGY As a result of the rescue excavations conducted at No. 6, Árpád Road Budapest, 3rd district (Csillaghegy), about 30 decoratively carved stone relics came to light: the remains of a disintegrated funerary monument and shrine. As to be judged from the 15th century ceramic finds turned up there, in the Middle Ages the stones were used secondarily, for building dams or filling in marshes. Particularly interesting among the Roman relics is a beautifully finished altar-stone with marine goddesses holding shells represented on its two sides, further a fragment of a tombstone erected for an attorney. . . Sextus Lucanius, as well as a fragmentary inscription displaying the name Rutilius. It is hoped that the original provenances of these stones and their way of use in the Middle Ages will be cleared up by the excavations planned for the near future.
