Avenue. Another of his works, executed in a similar manner but more richly adorned, is a chalice in the St. Anne church at Buda : made around 1760, it shows the images of Jesuit saints. Only very few creations of József Schätzl (1757—1767) are known. Two ciboria of gilded silver, now in the Franciscan Church of Pest, were made between 1765 and 1767 and reveal a delicate taste. Two pieces made by János M. Schwager (1769—1822) are known : a chalice, made about 1770, is embellished with scenes from Christ's life and kept now in the St. Anne Church at Buda ; further a Torah decoration modelled in the form of a ship, made between 1774 and 1781 which is in the custody of the National Jewish Museum. Decorations on Schwager's work are dominated by rococo motifs. The most gifted of all goldsmiths of PestBuda of the 18th century was Simon Reichenpfalter (1763—1772), a most prominent master of miniature repoussé-work. Not many of his works are known to art history. There is a rococo crucifix from 1765 in the University Church; a chalice of gilded silver with embossed decorations representing scenes from the Old Testament, made in 1768 and now in the possession of the Parish Church of the City of Pest ; finally, a monstrance in the same church, also from 1768. All these pieces belong to the most outstanding works of art created by Fig. 1 Chalice. By a Serbian master of Buda. First half of 18th century. St. Anne Church, Buda Fig. 2 Chalice. By János M. St. Anne Church, Buda masters of the silversmith's craft in the 18th century. The Paschberger family occupies a prominent position in the history of the gold and silversmith's art in Pest-Buda. József Paschberger, born in Prague (1762—1776), and Simon Reichenpfalter were the two greatest masters of the baroque style in Pest-Buda. A gilded silver chalice, made by Paschberger in 1778 and kept now in the Roman Catholic church of the VHIth District, has always been regarded as the most beautiful work of this master, but it must be admitted that two of his other works, namely a rococo chalice in the Parish Church at Kecskemét and a monstrance in the Franciscan Church of Pest (1774—1781), revealing the style of Louis XVI, are quite as noteworthy pieces of art. Two of the master's more modest creations are the ciborium — made between 1774 and 1781 — of the Roman Catholic Parish Church of the Vlth District and a chalice adorned with festoonlike embellishments : made in 1783, it is now in the possession of the Lutheran church of Pest. The Parish Church of the City of Pest is in the possession of an embossed silver rococo thurible made between 1774 and 1781 by the master György Raisch (1772—1782). An exquisite work of art, a monstrance, made in 1800, is the creation of Lambert Hartl: he was licensed as master in 1777 and worked at Eger as from 1793. It is in the possession of the Parish Church of the Vlth District. Fig. 13 Crucifix. Simon Reichenpfalter, master goldsmith at Pest, 1765.
