In numerous cases, we found remains of textile and leather on the mounts and strap-ends recovered from the graves (from both chronological horizons) owing to the favourable chemical properties of the soil. Sherds ornamented with wavy lines were found in the ploughed field by the above-mentioned side-tributary of the Ilosszúréti stream, about 200-300 m east of the excavation. They can probably be linked with the Avar settlement to which the unearthed graves belonged. Several Avar cemeteries are known in the environs of the site (MARÓTI 2002), which shows that the area was densely populated in the Avar period. The closest cemetery was located about 1.5-2 km from this site, between the Ml motorway and national road no. 100 (Biatorbágv-Budapark). The 450 graves unearthed there were dated from between the fourth quarter of the AD 7 th century and the first quarter of the AD 9 th century (SIMON 1993), which means that they were partly contemporary with the cemetery fragment unearthed at Hosszúrétek.
