Aquincumi füzetek? (1996) 50-52. was left. The entire area was covered by a thick, loose, dark grey levelling layer densely mixed with household refuse, spoilt clay weights and sherds. Judging from the finds, this refuse laver came from the levelling of the potters' workshops west of our territory (PARRAGI 1971), taken here probably during the landscaping work which took place after the Marcomann wars. The foundation of the next house was dug into this refuse layer. Here, just as in other housing districts of the town, the building was gradually enlarged by newrooms in each period, (Fig. 6) while the hypocaustum heating system was added during the last reconstruction. After the district had been evacuated in the 4 th c, the territory was used as a cemetery (TOPÁL 1996). A further fifty graves were unearthed on the lot. The finds elate the cemetery parcel to the second half of the 4" 1 century. Orsolya Madarassy
