VETTERS 1986, 213-220). Judging from the horse graves, a corral may even have operated in this military territory on the western side of Hunyadi János Road, 250-300 m southwest of the auxiliary fort unearthed by Tibor Nagy (NAGY 1976, 91.; VISY 2000, 58-59.). It is also possible that the location of these buried horse carcasses marked the southern border of the vicus. The results of the analyses of the soil samples taken from this territory may contribute to the clarification of the problem. The analyses will be carried out by György Füleki and his students (Szent István University, Gödöllő). It should not be disregarded, however, that the ditches could also have been used for draining the teritory in later periods as well. Continuued archaeological investigation is needed for the further study of this military territory and for the unambiguous determination of the connection between water draining and the vicus in the yet unexplored area north of the excavation surfaces of 1999 and 2001.
