5. Szondázó jellegű kutatás az aquincumi polgárvárostól délkeletre (Zsidi Paula)

A kutatóárok alapján képet alkothattunk a terület rétegviszonyairól, valamint a - bár csekély számú római kori telepnyomból, továbbá a viszonylag nagyszámú leletanyag alapján a további kutatásokhoz szolgáltattunk kiindulópontot. A területre kerülő építmények alapozása - amenyiben az a tervek szerint kerül kivitelezésre - csak az újkori feltöltést érinti, a közművek nyomvonala azonban várhatóan újabb alkalmat ad a feltárásra a következő időszakban. Zsidi Paula modern-day Záhony street, however, they are located some 2.5 m below street level. A fair amount of roman sherds were recovered from the sandy clay layer below this road surface. No sealed layers or traces of features were found. A 40 cm broad, darker band could be seen only at the bottom, once the undisturbed yellow, sandy subsoil was reached. Another small, oval discoloration was found to the north. The aforementioned dark band contained an AD 3rd century subaeratus coin. On the basis of this test trench it is possible to reconstruct the stratigraphy in this area. In addition, even the scarce assemblage of Roman Period artifacts offers a starting point for futher research. If recent construction plans will be carefully observed, the foundation works will affect only the modern age fill. Excavations along the line of public works, however, will probably offer new oppurtunities for archaeological investigations in the near future. Paula Zsidi
