A Felvidék településeinek vallási adatai 1880–1941 I. kötet (1999)
ELŐSZÓ
reannected localities we do not have data on religions for 1941. For this reason we had to decide whether we compile a volume in question for the whole period, but for the reannected localities only, or for the whole Upper Northern Hungary with missing 1941 Census data in the case of non-reannected localities. We chose the latter solution. The present volume containing the data of Upper Northern Hungary includes the data of two Hungárián (1880 and 1910) and two Czechoslovakian (1921 and 1930) Censuses, but that of the Hungárián 1941 Census for the reannected localities only. The correct and unbiased understanding and use of the data require at least a short summary of main conceptual, content and organisational characteistics of population censuses. Several problems related to different definitions, modified locality names, administrative changes and bordér arrangements had tc be surmounted in this work. The volume contains a short analysis on the development of the religional data of the localities of Upper Northern Hungary in the given period. The study presents the development of the religional composition of the population, number of people belongong to different religions and denominations and shortly refers to the relation between religional and nationality data. Alsó it describes the differences in the religional categories of the Hungárián and Czechoslovakian censuses. To conclude, let me hope, this publication together with all others of the series will prove to be a realistic source with modern attitűdé, which meets a long felt need, and helps in sociologic and historic analyses.
