INTRODUCTION
Hungárián" of the 1941 population census volume 1^ which belonged to Hungary in 1941. The lateral text of Table 2 with locality lines enumerates — on the basis of Table 1 "More 2/ important demographic data by communes" of the 1910 population census volume — those villages and towns which belonged to Hungary in 1910 but did not belong to it in 1941. In the headings of the tables the designation "according to the administrative division of 1910" and, respectively, "1941" points only to the fact that the lateral text contains the régiónál grouping of the population census publications corresponding to that year. In fact, in the course of the data processing administrative changes, fusions of villages and the establishments of villages having taken place between the critical moment of the population censuses and the time points of the data processings were taken into consideration. The counties (respectively, administrative representations) and, within them, the districts and the county towns (with councils regulated in 1910) and, within the districts, the villages are in alphabetical order. The last county town or, respectively, town with regulated council is followed by the totál line of the county followed, in turn, by the municipal town/s/ connected with the county geographically. In Table 1, in the case of those districts and, respectively, counties, which were divided by the Trianon borders — in order to ensure the comparability of the time series — there are two totál lines referring to the Trianon and, respectively, to the disannexed area. The data of those communes figuring in the earlier population censuses which lost their independence, were absorbed into somé other village or town are contained in the data series of that village or town to which they belonged in 1910 and, respectively, in 1941. In the case of communes established between 1880 and 1941 in the columns of the years when the respective commune did not exist, this fact is indicated by "..". Unknown figures are alsó indicated by ".." in the columns of the 1920 and 1930 population censuses if the respective locality did not belong to Hungary in those years, and in the column of 1840 if the respective locality did not figure in the data source. Transfers of parts of settlements (outer areas) between localities are not reflected in the data. Consequently, in somé cases, population size figures. published here may differ somewhat from the respective data of other sources (for example, from the retrospective data of population census publications). Localities divided by the bordér were assigned to the localities on this side of the bordér even if the major part of their population got beyond the bordér. For example, the data of the town of Komárom are to be found at the Trianon area and the data of Nagylak are not in Table 2 but in Table 1 containing locality lines. In order to ensure an overview, besides the publication of the basic data ample data summaries are alsó given. 1/ The 1941 population census. Demographic data by communes.
