National Law and Government Gazetta regarding the crown land of Transylvania. Piece: 5. Published and distributed on May 12, 1850, p. 42-62. - For Hungary the population census was ordered somewhat earlier by Geringer, "the imperial commissioner empowered with full rights with regard to civil matters." Published: in Law and Government Gazette regarding Hungary, year 1, Buda, 1850. p. 105-123. 4. The same is said in the instruction regarding Hungary in a somewhat easier style: "The aim of the official population census is to provide a certain basis for the acual replenishment of the army, for community needs, for internal public administration and for the simple knowledge of the country." 5. Interestingly, the 1977 Roumanian population census also returned to these two categories. This time however the number of the Szekelys was comletely insignificant and their data were included into the rubric of "those of other nationalities". 6. Elek Fenyes: The present state of Hungary and of the provinces annexed to it in statistical and geographical aspects. Pest, volumes L-vi and other works. 7. With regard to the practice of separation no answer was received either from the most recent summary. Cf.; Carl. Gollner: Die Siebenburgische Milit'drgrenze, 1762-1851, Munich, 1974. 8. In the literature there are alternating references to the 1850 and, respectively, 1851 population census. (:Cf.: Alfred Lengyel: The results of the 1851 population census in the county of Gyor. Historical Statistical Communications, 1858, No. 1-2.) Since the population census was both ordered and prepared in 1850 and for 1851 only the summarization and the publication of the data remained, the designation "1850" is regarded as more appropriate. 9.
