191. Territorial division of Transylvania at the 1850 population CenSUS introduced in 1854 by the Bachera authorities. As against the 10 districts established then, at the time of the population census there were 5 military \ r, districts (MilitSr District): —\ . those of, respectively, Gyulafe\ ,—' (f (i.«o»»y ^ ( NJ hervar, Kolozsvar, Nagyszeben, Z' I ""°j } Retteg and Udvarhely. It is to be { \ L./' noted that while the whole (1 -'w'' population of the Second Roumanian Frontier Guard Regiment was taken into account as military population, the localities of the First Roumanian Frontier Guard 18 Regiment, with some exceptions, consisted of a mixed military and civil population and, accordingly, figured in two places: the civil population in the sub-areas of the Region of Fogaras and the Region of Hunyad and the military population with the localities of the regiment. Consequently, the total population of the First Roumanian Frontier Guard Regiment can be obtained by the addition of these two figures. It is also important to stress that in 1850, the parts of the former Partium (the counties of Central-Szolnok and of Kraszna and the Region of Kovar in the north, and the Region of Korosbanya from the former county of Zarand in the south) belonged to Transylvania whose area was of the same size as in the Josephian age. In the tables the names of the districts, areas and sub-areas are published in Hungarian. Accordingly, in 1850, the administrative division of Transylvania (and the corresponding division of the population census) was the following. (See also the enclosed map.) I. THE MILITARY DISCTRICT OF GYULAFEHfiRVAR 1. THE AREA OF BALAZSFALVA The sub-arey of Dobra The sub-area of Buzasbesenyo The sub-area of Kemend The sub-area of Desfalva The sub-area of Marosillye The sub-area of Girbo The sub-area of KUkullovar 3.
