The reason is that many elderly persons (400 000) live alone. The situation is similar alsó in dwellings occupied only by middle-aged persons, because in them, too, it is rather frequent that their inhabitant lives alone. In the case of composition of inhabitants belonging to two generations there are alsó values of occupancy which are worse than the average of the country, because in these dwellings there are already two persons. The situation is most unfavourable where young and middle-aged persons or three generations live together. In these dwellings, mostly four or five persons live together and, consequently, the indicator of occupancy is very high: 373 and 471 persons, respectively. This is only partly moderated by the larger floor-space of these dwellings since, due to the higher number of inhabitants, it is in these categories of age-structure that the floor-space of the dwelling or of the room per one inhabitant is the smallest. 47
