V. EXPLANATION OF CONCEPTS

HEATING The dwellings can have either central heating or separate heating of the places. The different kinds of central heating are: — district-, block heating: several dwellings of several buildings (residential quarters) receive the heat necessary for heating from a thermal station, heating works or from a natural thermal spring; — separate boiler heating of the building: several ctoellings of one building receive the heat for heating from a boiler which is in the building or is in direct connection with the building; — separate central heating for one dwelling: the supply of heat for the places of one cVelling (one floor) or only of a building with one dwelling (detached family house) from one heating place. The separate heating of places is the heating of the places of the dwelling by stove, convector etc. Beside the manner of heating alsó the types of fuel (carriers of energy) used most frequently for the heating of the dwelling, such as electricity, gas, fuel oil (mazut), coal (coke, lignité, turf etc.), wood (sawdust, brushwood etc.) and other fuels, are indicated. WALLING The dwellings were grouped by outer walling (main walling) in a simplified way on the basis of the building technology and materials used. Traditional (hand-made) wallings: — brick, stone, hand-made walling element — abode, mud, beaten earth — wood. In the case of walling made of abode, mud, beaten earth, the solid foundation and alsó the lack of foundation were indicated. Modern building methods: — médium or large block: prefabricated elements as high as half a floor and a whole floor, respectively, which cannot be placed by strength of arm; their material is light concrete, concrete, ferro-concrete, ceramics etc.; — cast concrete: concrete, ferro-concrete wall construction cast into shutter on the spot; — panel: a prefabricated (house factory) wall construction made of ferro-concrete, of high degree of preparedness, generally placed through mechanical lifting and fixed with bonds along the edges. Dwellings built with wallings of mixed composition were included in the group corresponding to the bigger part of the walling. YEAR OF CONSTRUCTION In the case of the dwellings built newly or entirely rebuilt and established by dwelling-division, the year of construction is the year in which the licence for their use was issued. In the case there is no such licence (the dwelling was built very long ago or was occupied without licence), the year of construction is the year in which the first inhabitant moved into the dwelling. 272
