Bevezető

INTRODUCTION The results of the 1990 population census are published by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office in a series of publications. This series comprises both national data sets and thematic analytical volumes. One of these latters is the present volume. Its analysis are based on the following data sets: 1. 1990 Hungarian Population Census: Nationality, Mother Tongue, Volume I. Data According to Nationality 2. 1990 Hungarian Population Census: Nationality, Mother Tongue, Volume II. Data According to Mother Tongue 3. 1990 Hungarian Population Census: Mother Tongue, Nationality by Localities, 1980, 1990 In the 1990 population census, special stress was laid on the more detailed processing of nationality data in comparison with former censuses. The analytical aspects of the nationality and mother tongue data of the census are in conformity with the recommendations of the conference held in September 1992 on statistics of national/ethnic/mother tongue groups. The explanation of the most important concepts used in the analysis, are to be found in the publication no. 2 mentioned above.
