1990. ÉVI NÉPSZÁMLÁLÁS Az aktív keresők, a háztartások és családok társadalmi-foglalkozási összetétele (1992)

BEVEZETŐ

INTRODUCTION It was the first time for several decades that within the framework of the 1990 population census it was possible to present an objective picture free from ideological restrictions on the main characteristics of the socio-occupational composition of the economically active persons as well of the households and families. At the same time we wanted to describe - as far as possible retrospectively till 1970 - alsó the processes determining the structure of the society. Namely the presentation of the reorganization occurred in the 1970s and 1980s can contribute to the elucidation of the tendencies which led to the start of the change of regime. On basis of the above consideration our study was built on four major categories of strata. These categories are as follows: - persons of non-agricultural manual occupation; - persons of agricultural manual occupation; - persons of third-level education and of non-manual occupation; - persons of secondary or lower education and of non-manual occupation. We alsó examined the inner structure of the individual strata by various criteria. In case of households and families of a heterogeneous character in respect of the stratification we used adequate combinations. At the evaluation it must be taken into consideration that the 1990 information on the socio-occupational composition is available in a totál cross-section only on basis of the 2 per cent representative sample of the population census. Due to the sampling the data differ from the final results published, based on the full-scope processing of the 1990 population census. These differences, however, do not influence on the meríts the conclusions concerning the main tendencies and ratios. On the method of sampling and on the possible extent of the differences resulting from it an information can be found in chapters III-IV (pages 237-248) of the volume "Detailed data based on a 2 per cent representative sample" issued in 1991 within the framework of the publication series of the 1990 population census. Beside a text describing the data and beside the tables this publication alsó contains the description of the concepts - not issued in other publications of the population census - serving as a basis for the definition of the socio-occupational composition. 4
