1970 HUNGARIAN CENSUS OF POPULATION Information on the data collection and processing (1977)
I. THE COMPREHENSIVE REWIEV OF THE DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING - 8. The electronic data processing of the census of 1970
Fig. 1. In the part "A" of the figure it is conspicuous that the persons may get connected with their flats and the latter can be filled up with all the criteria which either refer to the persons or can be computed by means of them. This relation may also be reversible. In the part "B" of the figure, the flats completed with personal criteria may be connected with the building and can be completed with arbitrary information characterizing them in each direction. The computer also rendered unnecessary the composition of the information concerning the households and the families by means of manual techniques. This was performed entirely by the machine. The person performing the coding had but.to record a figure which showed to which household (if there are more than one) the person in question belonged, and within the household, to which family again (if the household consisted of a number of families). In addition to the above, the coding personnel defined the family status of the person registered, by recording the code numbers of the status held within the family and the household. The recording of the code consisting of five figures ensured the assembling of the household and the family compound to be shaped by the computer (Fig. no. 2. ) Similarly to the assembling of the file of the households and families, the compound of the file of buildings has been performed in the same manner. The link between the dwellings and buildings was ensured by the recording of the serial number of the building to which the dwelling belonged. The system of the hierarchy followed in the registration may be illustrated by calling the duties of the census-taker back to mind: 63
