Conservation was performed, as well as the application of a thin layer of wax to its reverse side. In parallel with the restoration work, an ornamented frame was designed which at the same time functioned as a semi-permeable air-conditioning device. The advantage of this was that it eliminated significant swings in temperature and humidity, thus helping to moderate any further changes. After the filling of the gaps and the varnishing of the painting, retouching was performed by means of hatching using various aquarelle and oil-resin paints.
