Korszerű vászonkép-konzerválás szerény felszereltség mellett - Kőrösfői Kriesch Aladár Boldogság című festményének restaurálása

Műtárgyvédelem 37—38 The up-to-date conservation of a canvas painting in small-workshop circumstances The restoration of the painting 'Happiness' by Aladár Kőrösfői Kriesch István Bóna This early canvas picture was made by Aladár Körősfői Kriesch using a very sensitive technique. The artist had applied a water-sensitive grounding to the canvas, onto which he had painted with oil, likewise fairly thinly. The canvas had weakened and had lost its tension; for its part, the paint layer had blistered and had started to flake off. The painting’s surface was very much out of shape. The painting had not been varnished, but had been repaired at least once earlier on, with repainting in places. The aims of the restoration were to stabilise the picture and to restore it aesthetically. The canvas was put onto a temporary stretching frame by means of rubber seals used on preserving jars. Then, with the application of cold moisture, it was smoothed out. Consolidation and lining were performed using the ‘loose interleaf’ procedure along with isobutyl methacrylate as the consolidant and adhesive. Synthetic ‘interleaf’ ensured that the picture would not again lose its tension on the frame. Retouching was executed using dry pigment mixed with the binding medium poly(vinyl acetate). According to earlier experience in a number of countries, such a mix will not alter in colour as rapidly as oil paint. Aesthetically, too, it was more favourable. In addition, it could be varnished immediately without endangering the retouching work.
