Markaly Zsuzsanna: Galvanoplasztikai eljárással készült fedeles serleg restaurálása

Markaly Zsuzsanna • Galvanoplasztikai eljárással készült fedeles serleg restaurálása parts of the lid were restored to their proper shape by means of the repoussé method (using rubber-headed and wooden-headed mallets) and appropriately shaped wooden structures. In some places, rigidity of the metal meant that deformation could be eliminated only by hand. After careful straightening out, the cracked edge parts were made good by means of soldering. Then, with the help of a scouring polisher, the excess material was removed, initially with metal cutting heads and then with rubber polishing disks. The cup part was fixed to the base with small nails. The missing dragon figure was made from brass using a precision casting method. The beaker and its lid were polished first with steel wool and then with Bologna chalk in aqueous solution. Next, the artefact was plated first in silver and then in gold using the galvanisation method. Finally, the beaker and its lid were given a coating of polyvinyl acetate.
