Havasi Dóra Zita: Egy 19. századi japán váza restaurálása

Havasi Dóra Zita • Egy 19. századi japán váza restaurálása with cleaning fluid used on pewtered bronze artefacts. All this was done cautiously, taking care that the patina that had formed on the surface of the artefact, and the patina created artificially there, should not suffer damage. Cleaning of the gilded decoration was effected locally with citric acid and that of the silver inlay parts with Argentol (a solution containing citric acid and thiocarbamide); afterwards, the neutralisation of the surfaces treated in this way was achieved using sodium bicarbonate and distilled water. After cleaning, removal of the dents was performed by means of vibrating embossing tools. The rim of the vase and the foot part - because of their brittleness - could only be restored partially to the correct shape with the help of wooden blocks appropriately fashioned. Inlay which had become detached and misshapen was straightened out and stuck back using two-component epoxy resin. Missing pieces of inlay were replaced by new ones made with attention to the materials, production techniques, and patination characteristic of the originals. In the absence of an analogy of the vase, the lost handles and the details missing from the foot were not replaced.
