Faragó Szandra: Egy 19. századi matyó dolmány restaurálása

Műtárgyvédelem 35 felt bordering the edges of the dolman, and the strips of cord on them, were in poor condition and fragmentary. The glass buttons on these had remained in good condition, while the metal ones were corroded. Although well preserved, the lining was heavily soiled; the sewing along the edges had come undone. Two felt strips decorating the lining were in poor condition; an inner pocket was soiled and its decorative strip was missing. The restoration began with a thorough documenting of the material investigations and the artefact itself. Partial dismantling of the garment facilitated dry cleaning work, and then — after tests regarding the fastness of the colours — cleaning using water. The treatment of the base material of the garment, and of the chest part of the lining, was done on a mannequin, while that of the sleeves was performed flat. The simultaneous conservation and repair of the broadcloth was executed by the putting on of patches from underneath. After complete replacement of the felt strips, the fragments of cord ribbon were conserved. Conservation of the threads of the dangling cord embroidery was achieved using coloured silk yarn. After cleaning, the buttons were given a protective coating of Paraloid B72 solution. Conservation of the pocket and the felt strips embellishing the lining was executed by application of patches from underneath. Reassembly everywhere took place using hemp yarn, on the basis of the original technique used. The decisions taken during the restoration work were always made with the interests of the artefact in mind. The work came to an end with the making of a mannequin necessary for the exhibiting of the dolman.
