Papp Kinga: "Louis seize" ülőgarnitúra restaurálása

Műtárgyvédelem 35 The Restoration of a ‘Louis Seize’ Suite of Furniture Kinga Papp Made in the Louis Seize style, this suite of furniture consisting of seven pieces (two chairs with arms, one oval table, two small tables, and two tabourets) is the property of the Domonkos Kuny Museum. It was bequeathed to the museum by Mrs. Dezső Kuffler. The pieces had a coating of brown paint; however, where this had chipped off, traces of white and gold could be seen. On the basis of examination under a microscopic of cross-sections of samples taken from the paint layer, it emerged that the furniture had been repainted many times, and that the original coating given to the surfaces was white with gilding. The last layer with brown wood-grain finish had changed the character of the furniture utterly. The upholstery on the chairs was of recent date; of the original fabric almost nothing remained. In the course of the restoration, the layers of repainting were removed and the original appearance of the pieces was restored using the earlier technique. After this, the upholstered parts of the pieces were re-upholstered, using a technique and material similar to those employed originally. The new fabric was selected on the basis of the specialist literature, with art historian assistance.
