In the wake of a 19'1’ century counterfeit Annamária Bakács The conservation of the fake Siena book cover preserved in the Small Collections Department of the Museum of Applied Arts was carried out in the Conservation Department of the Hungarian University of Pine Arts. The preliminary analyses of the object of art supported that it was a counterfeit, just as it had been determined most probably from stylistic traits. According to the description on the backside, the boards that covered the registry were painted in 1465, while they were actually prepared in the second half of the 19th century. Even a simple visual scrutiny uncovered several marks that revealed that the purpose had been intentional deception at the preparation of the gabella.The arches of the warping of the two supports appeared to be very similar after the reassembly 19
