Czifrák László: A Zsolnay kacsás díszszökőkút restaurálása
was used for the completions, which were fixed to the original fracture surfaces of the ducks with posterior gluing and not with casting because of conservation ethical aspects. The broken elements and the completions were fixed with a two- component epoxy adhesive of Bisont type. The final shaping of the surfaces of the completions was made with Nova charged polyester synthetic resin, which was polished to a uniform surface. The retouch was made with acryl type paint of a metal lustre, which was applied on the surfaces of the completions with a retouch piston in several varnish layers. To reconstruct the metal lustre of the eosine glaze was a great challenge since only the reproduction of this lustre could give the final aesthetic picture of the object. The three missing elements of the fountain were made with the help of the plaster negatives made after the original items. All the three reconstructed elements were marked with the word “Copy” and the date so that they can easily be differentiated at a possible later museum reconstruction. Zsolnay’s duck fountain can be seen in the Zsolnay exhibition of the Janus Pannonius Museum in Pécs. With its reconstruction, such an object of art was rescued that offers a true picture of the spiritual and artistic community in which it was born at the beginning of the 1900’s.
